“You could.” Noah said, and another scratch, behind ears, as Adam’s lip twitched, downward pluck of strings.
“I don’t want to.”
“Okay, we got it.” Adam scoffed, “Thanks, Ronan, you’re a delight, you know?”
“Tell your boyfriend about it.” Ronan spat.

Declan let out a shaky exhale. He quickly glanced at his brother still silently watching them, then forced himself to meet Parrish’s eyes.
− Yes.
−Yes, who?The look on Parrish’s face was tantalizing, the slight curve of his mouth daring. Declan hesitated, out of his depth and scared, but he was three flights of stairs too late to back out now.
− Yes, Adam, he ended up answering, a slight tremor in his voice.
The smile on Adam’s face turned mocking, shaping itself into a very Ronan-like expression.

But the wall was behind her, and she couldn’t get any further. She pressed herself against the wall, drawing herself in to make herself as small as possible.
One of the demon's scaly claws landed on her shoe, vile and otherworldly, and it heaved itself up her leg, scorpion tail readying.
She closed her eyes and braced herself for what she was sure was going to be a painful death.
When it didn’t come, she cracked her eye open, just in time to see the monster on her erupting into dust.
She blinked, and dropped her hand from where it had automatically come up to shield her face. Standing in front of her were the two men from before, the pale one sheathing a strange, slightly glowing sword stained with the monster’s black blood.
It seemed impossible. One moment the creature was there and the other it was gone, the only thing that remained of it currently coating her leggings. That wasn’t how living things died. That wasn’t how anything died.
But then she snapped herself back into her mind. That didn’t matter. What mattered was that thing had attacked Noah, and he wasn’t getting up.

“Don’t worry, Parrish, when it’s your turn I’ll be gentler,” Ronan snarked. She met Adam’s eyes with a leer, but found her bravado dissipating when Adam arched an eyebrow in return, her mouth set challengingly.
