She wasn’t trying hard enough; she deserved the failure. She knew she did, and she knew because she knew that was what Roy would tell her, if he’d only show himself. He had his reasons. The day she succeeded would be the day she saw him again, and the day she saw David again. Fully human, both of them. And it would be the way it was so long ago, David and Lesley and her dearest Roy. She was single-handedly sewing them back together, like he had ordered her to.
