Taking place shortly after the game "Shadow the Hedgehog", it appears that not all is at it seems with the Chaos Emeralds. As soon as they're found they disappear, taking their possessor along with them. With the team quickly dwindling, they have little time to uncover the truth and find the others, before the planet's very own essence is lost to time.
Or: action/adventure with bits of humor and drama, focusing on an introverted Shadow's investigation and dealing with Sonic and Tails far more than he should be contractually obligated to.
Never mind being forced to face his past in the process.

This speaking engagement is meant to be a test of sorts, to see if Spencer and Gideon can get back into the swing of their academic pursuits while still playing nice. They've done a lot of research together over the years and neither one of them wants to see their field of study suffer over something so trivial as interpersonal dysfunction.
Maybe that's the delay—some argument they had to stop to sort out before they could come back to the BAU and put on a neutral face. Maybe Hotch is jumping the gun and he'll hear all about it tonight when he and Spencer get dinner.
