He can’t remember the last time the welts on the back of his thighs weren’t a sickly purple colour from Uncle Vernon’s belt. He wasn’t allowed to go to school, he had to stay home- in his cupboard. He’s stopped chewing with the left side of his face gradually, the teeth there ache especially bad at night. Harry’s face feels swollen on that side, the pain is unbearable when aunt Petunia does remember to brush his teeth.

    Buck’s shirt must’ve ridden up when Eddie roll over, because Eddie’s face is pressed to Buck’s bare skin. His breaths are warm puffs of air against the skin of his stomach, and Buck shivers. This feels like heaven, and it’s killing him that it’s going to be over soon.

    “Eddie,” Buck whispers, so so carefully, hoping he doesn’t hear him. Eddie doesn’t, dead to the world, warm and safe in Buck’s lap.

    He looks so young, like this. Buck’s seen him asleep plenty of times, but he’s never seen him like this—and it’s killing him. It’s actually, genuinely killing him because he cannot breathe, and he is in love. Oh God, he’s so in love. He’s in love with Eddie. He’s known for months but it’s unbearable right now, the feeling that’s coursing through his veins. It washes over him like a wave, and chokes with the weight of it—unbearable.

    Where else was he going to end up, if not here? Maybe it was written in fate, he finds himself hysterically thinking. Since the first time he laid eyes upon Eddie, he was always going to end up here—hopelessly, unfathomably deep in love.
