thank you and every single Open Doors volunteer for your hard, hard work <3! preserving fandom history is preserving cultures
here's some questions of mine:
1.) what would you say has been the biggest undertaking for Open Doors?
2.) does Fanlore ever cooperate with you? especially when it comes to writing about the larger archives, e.g FictionAlley, [insert innumerable HP-related archives here] and Sentinel Angst?
and as a bonus: 3.) what fandom was your first and how long has it been since you've written fic before getting that creative juice in you again?
"Preserving fandom history is preserving cultures" is so true! I'll make sure to pass your thanks on to the rest of the team 🙂
Our biggest undertaking so far has been importing HarryPotterFanfiction.com, which has over 80k works! It's almost 3x the size of the second largest archive we've imported, FictionAlley. An archive of that size requires many, many hours by both our Tech team and our Import Assistants to prepare everything for import.
Yes, we do work with Fanlore! Open Doors will add basic information about an archive import to its page if it already exists, or create one entirely if it does not. However, any additional information about the archives is provided by Fanlore editors, not us. We always encourage people, whether experienced editors or complete beginners, to add information about the archives we import to Fanlore!
My first fandom was How to Train Your Dragon, and it was about a year between the last fic I wrote and the one I mentioned in this post. Coincidentally, I posted it this weekend, which I was very excited about!
