Comment on Five Things AuroraT Said

  1. Very few of the steps actually involve the works themselves! We compile the metadata in spreadsheets, search for the works on AO3 (to avoid importing a work that a creator has already posted themselves), and then import the works. Most of the other steps in our import process are actually about communication and documentation. We do a lot of information gathering about an archive before we officially begin an import, and much of that is communicating back and forth with an archive's moderator(s). We also communicate with several other committees during the process, so there are a lot of emails we have to send. And the documentation is to make sure that we know what's been done and what hasn't so that we don't accidentally skip or duplicate a step. This is why I love digital checklists!

Oh wow, what a detailed response!

Your digital organization skills are enviable -- I know what I need to emulate in my professional life, haha!

It is AMAZING how much work and professionalism go into these things in fandom. People really WILL work without profit incentive, when it's something they're passionate about.
