Comment on Resignation of OTW Director

  1. Regarding Solrise's comment, who has blocked me before responding in an attempt to silence my response:

People in this exact comment section are demanding stories be censored on this site. So much for "no one".

    1. Never made any attempt to dispute any of the claims made against you, I see. Almost like you are a bigot and don't like being called out.

crazy that you two are fighting so hard to protect racism when its clearly the minority viewpoint, i thought you guys were all about hating minorities and stuff

      1. I am against any effort to censor the contents of fan works on this website, including back-door efforts. I don't care about anything other than that. Libelous accusations against me are irrelevant to that clearly stated position.

Let me pointedly ask, then: are you calling for the censorship of fan works on this website?

I also do not know who the other "two" is. I have been speaking for myself alone in this comment section as well as those in the past.

yeah im calling for the censorship of hate speech the same way i call for the censorship of hate speech in real life? there is a massive difference between works that deliberately and overtly target and demean specific groups and individuals and works that simply have offensive content and if you are unable to tell the difference then i pity you i think.
is it a "libelous accusation" to say that you wish to protect racism from being censored on this site? because thats what youve just said and i dont see how its irrelevant, if this is something you actually care about then i dont see why you would feel embarrassed or slighted by that statement, you should be shouting it from the rooftops. "its important that racist works are allowed to stay on ao3" "racism should be allowed here" etc. etc.

          1. I'm against all censorship because I know how censorship works, especially in the modern age. Nuance is professed; only the "most extreme" cases. Next thing, word filters are in place, people are banned for implications. You act like I haven't seen this before time and time again.

Thank you, however, for proving my post absolutely correct that this "end racism" movement is about censoring fan works. We can put that to rest, as if it needed debated when the foundational post of this movement started by complaining about a fan work using the word "savage" in it.

ah yes, the slippery slope logical fallacy. id invite you to look that one up and have a good hard look at your beliefs but we both know youre not interested in that. thank you very much for showing what political position you hold and im sorry that you cant understand why the word "savage" is derogatory and the history and current use of it as a slur but i doubt youd be willing to learn about it anyway.
at no point have i ever suggested censoring works that arent hate speech, and in fact - unlike you - i would very proudly stand up and say that i am actually against censoring things such as kink content, because i know that thats a real position and am not embarrassed to say it like you are with racism.

              1. Viren shudders and says ugh from putting the bug on his ear to speak to Aaravos

Thank you for speaking up and I agree with you, but the people arguing with you here are just going to attempt to rile you up enough to report your comments as harassment. They did it with me years ago and they so it with every anti-racist on this website. It's quite the uphill battle but again I appreciate your zeal.

            2. Slippery slope fallacy? I invite everyone to look up "boiling the frog". The facts speak for themselves about what is going on here, I'm afraid.

Further, I find the insinuation I wouldn't stand up against censorship of "kink content" utterly laughable. One, I explicitly said I am against all censorship of fan works. Two, check out my page, I wrote it and am writing more.

            3. The movement's Tumblr page and FAQ makes it clear they're not interested in censoring works. In fact, they've made it clear that the goal of this action isn't to dictate specifically how the OTW should go about improving the site, just that they should deliver on the promises they already made, such as looking at the TOS and hiring a diversity consultant. The movement isn't monopolised by antis, even if those viewpoints are being voiced by individual supporters. I too do not want works to be deleted because they merely contained bigotted content, because oppression affects and shapes all of our worldviews and the art we create, consciously or not.

Most of the focus is on harassment and abuse, something that is already in Ao3's TOS, and the ways in which the org is inefficiently dealing with abusers and harassers on the site. The lack of action is pushing fans of colour away. That needs to stop.

              1. One of their demands is that off site material be used in harassment reports, which is a messy and problematic idea at best with many ways it could be abused and their example is a case where the person they paint as a victim put a fic they never read on blast which got harassment directed at the writer. That and their liberal linking of stitch's work, who talks more about how terrible reylo is than actual abuse of actual people, leads me to believe that these are not honest actors.

                1. That's not an accurate characterization of Stitch's work at all.

                  1. your right! their work is even worse! I left out the fact that they call poc fans who ship things they don't like "social justice pokemon" and "minions of color" and paints them as race traitors while never actually citing actual cases of people flinging racist abuse at fans, like the infamous Sugarino.

Anyway, regardless of how shitty stitch's "activism" is, the demand being made here is still problematic at best from purely a moderation standpoint.
