(It's so much easier to be a good person when you're not clinically depressed, afraid for your family, or stuck in your past trauma).
This is a lengthy story meandering through Harry's childhood, with eventual plans to see it through his Hogwarts years and a very different resolution to canon. But in the meantime, the goal is cuteness and exploring a world with better-adjusted adults in it.

Shane watched him for a moment, processing, before accepting the pumpkin juice, taking a few small sips. He still found it hard to hold onto his thoughts, and he studied the other boy's hands as he drank. Rozanov had nice hands, his fingers calloused in a way that showed years of flying without gloves. A few of his knuckles looked slightly crooked, as if broken and healed a few too many times. Shane tightened his own healed fingers in sympathy. Rozanov’s hands looked strong and steady, and, as he handed back the juice, he unconsciously grazed the pads of his fingers along the top of the other boy’s before returning his distant focus to the ground.
Ilya didn’t talk; he took a long drink of the juice himself and let his eyes trace over Hollander’s cheeks, freckled with a slight wind burn from flying and a cute, embarrassed flush across his nose. His dark hair was slightly messy from the earlier flailing, and Ilya was sure Hollander didn't usually let people see him like this. Ilya set Hollander’s cloak on the floor between them.
“What happened?” he asked when Hollander’s hands stopped shaking.
