Summary
"When you wish upon a star, as dreamers do." The song says. But what does this mean to a hyena whose heart was in his dream, only for fate to answer with a predator's claws and teeth? Jeyluxhal is done wishing—if he can't have the one he loves.
Once a silent "spotling" named Tajiuva, he wished for a world that would never change. Fate answered with the predator’s teeth of Baridi—a lion who laughs at consequences and bleeds the innocent.
Years later, the Pride Lands celebrate a restored Circle of Life, but Jeyluxhal remains in the shadows of the Back Lands, fueled by a "Black Manta" brand of spite. He isn't looking for the "Happily Ever After" promised by stars; he’s looking for the "Agony Never Unending" of the lion who stole his voice.
With the sharp-tongued wildcat Hatima as his only tether to sanity, Jeyluxhal prepares to prove that when a dreamer stops wishing and starts hunting, no one is safe—not even the unborn, should Baridi ever betray his beliefs and father a cub as his child.
