Mark may have been whiny about receiving a younger sister. He was two, and a brat. He didn't want a younger sister. But as he grew and you did too, he started to develop a sense of responsibility towards you. Whether it was patching you up after you fell off a skateboard and scraped your knee, or getting his first tooth knocked out after defending you from a bully twice his size. Mark saw himself as a kind of protector to you. And you loved him for that. Parents noticed that the two of you were basically inseparable, nothing was able to pull the two of you away from each other. You were set. A father who was a superhero, and a loving mother. You thought you'd be happy forever. Now you know it was only a foolish pipe dream. Once Mark got his powers, everything went downhill. Your father changed. Your mother looked so tired and stopped talking. It all led up to that day four months ago when your father admitted he had killed the Guardians of the Globe and was intent on making Earth one of the Viltrumite Empire's colonies. Mark fought back. Naturally. He was too damn noble for his own good. But when you had tried getting involved, everything changed.

The woman stared back at him, her gleaming eyes all too familiar. They were the same pair in his nightmares—the ones that chased him from his sleep. Those sad, hollow eyes stared back at him with a flash of regret before they hardened.
“A part of me, substantial and great, did die,” She said solemnly. The Director cleared his throat, gaining Mark’s attention. Right, he remembered, this wasn’t the reason he was here.
“This way, please, we've got work to do and a planet to save,” Cecil murmured, eyes narrowed in on Mark. The Viltrumite opened his mouth, anger, hurt, and confusion pulsing through him. Cecil knew? She knew?
“Don’t,” She interrupted sharply. “Not now. Not here.”
Later, she seemed to say with her eyes. And Mark could do nothing as she turned on her heels and strode into the conference room. And so Mark followed, mere steps behind the woman he’d buried and mourned 10 months ago.Savannah Fawn.
