The Fourth of July is anything but a quiet affair in Smallville, Kansas, Tim learns. It seems like the whole town has converged on the Kent family farm.
He's sweaty, skin burned pink under the baking Kansas sun. Kon laughs when he reappears at Tim's side. "Someone forgot sunscreen," he teases, grabbing Tim's hand and towing him inside. It's cooler out of the sun, but only just. The Kents don't have central air, just a few old window units in some of the rooms.
"Funny, coming from the guy who literally can't get sunburned."
"You would think someone who can would remember it," he counters, pulling Tim upstairs to the bathroom.
"It rains in Gotham like three-fourths of the year," Tim grumbles as Kon starts riffling through the bathroom cabinet. "Kansas is just… stupid."

“You picked this out for me,” Shoko smiles. Utahime can feel it, can feel her lips curving against her own.
“You let me,” Utahime nearly gasps. “Let me buy it for you.”
She trails her thumb over Shoko’s cheekbone. She feels how defined she is there. She cups her jaw, breathing in again sharply, feeling lost in her anatomy.
“Did you—” Utahime pauses. Shoko licks against her tongue, over her teeth. “Are you wearing it for me?”
“Did'ya think I came on this stupid trip for the boys?” Shoko laughs, a subtle rasp. Her hands cling to Utahime’s clothes.
“Wanted you to style me. Wanted to look pretty for you, on the street.”
“Shoko,” Utahime whines.or: If y’all are familiar with that fanart of Shoko and Utahime in yukatas and they’re kissing… Yeah. Let's just say I had a vision. Divine intervention, we’ll call it.

“Colors are everywhere, Habibi,” mother said, walking slowly to allow Damian to toddle beside her. “The colors people chose to wear can tell much about them. Do you know why we wear green, Damian?”
“To show our ties to nature, and our hope to cleanse and balance humanity.” Damian recited, making sure to use every long word his teachers had beaten into him to memorize.
“Ravi has taught you well,” She slowed, and kneeled in front of a flower bush. She picked a small clematis flower. “What color is this, Damian?”
“Blue,” Damian answered quickly, pride filling his chest when his mother gave a nod of approval.
“Your Fathers eyes were blue,” Talia hummed. “A light blue. The same color as your blanket, only more beautiful. What color are mummy’s eyes, Damian?”
“Grey?” Damian guessed.
Talia reached out to push Damian’s bangs back, and place the Clematis behind Damian’s ear. She frowned disapprovingly. “My eyes are green.”

"Have I ever told you that you're the best dad ever?" He put on a cheeky smile as Sonic deadpanned with a quirked brow.
"No, in fact, you haven't." The blue hedgehog's lips quirked up in a smirk, and Tails knew he almost had him. All he had to do was convince the other of his devious plans. "But go on, I'm listening."
"So you'll let me get those fireworks and renounce my grounding?"
Sonic smiled wider, "No."

An alternate first meeting, where Ghost and Soap meet each other in the field under infinitely worse circumstances than either of them would have liked:
Ghost wakes up in a pit under a building with a bomb attached to him, certain he's going to die. Soap, an EOD tech amongst his other specialties, is the only person available to at least try to save him. It should be fraught, and tense, and miserable all around, and it is; a whole lot of Ghost slowly losing his mind while Soap does everything he can to save his life. But it would probably be easier if Ghost wasn't a stress-flirter, and if Soap wasn't the kind of endlessly competent that he loved, and if, by virtue of their situation, they didn't keep ripping open each other's wounds and then patching each other back up again after.
