Summary
Fíli has his father's hair and his Uncle Frerin's eyes. And such reminders of the grief of his mother and Uncle Thorin leave them barely able to look at him, much less touch him. Terrible things happen when they draw away, and he decides it would be better if he was just alone, away and unable to hurt them with his presence.
And so, Fíli, Son of Dís, vanished from the Blue Mountains at barely forty and never returned. Years later, an older Fíli makes his home in the Shire, hoping its borders will be enough to protect his two young children. Even when that proves impossible, he stays, claiming one Bilbo Baggins as his brother and protecting the land from the orcs that hunt still the children of Durin.
But dwarves from his past come knocking on Bag End, readying for a quest to slay a dragon and not expecting to find the lost child of Durin in a green-doored smial. They were never able to understand his departure, nor do they understand his distance now. Along the way to Erebor, they come across many places that already haunt Fíli, and his distance between them begins to crack.
But will they understand?

Summary
Command's latest scheme seemed to be playing matchmaker in the hopes that couples would eventually bond and produce the sparklings Cybertron so desperately needed. The crazy part was that they seemed to be doing a pretty good job. Now if only they were half as competent dealing with the trouble brewing out in space.
