Summary
He knows she’s going to ask him to come home with her the second she starts to fiddle with her scarf. Decides he’s going to say yes when he spots Allie laughing at the bar with Hannah. His stomach flips at the sight of her – the comfy jeans and chic coat she’s wearing transport him right back to Thanksgiving, and all he can think is, she’s fucking beautiful – but then Penelope’s lips are at his ear, “Do you want to get out of here?” And yes, yes, yes, he needs to get out of here so fucking bad.
Dean rubs his thumb back and forth over one of the stripes on her scarf when he rasps, “Lead the way.”
He doesn’t look Allie’s way as Penelope drags him out by the hand. He catches the scent of her strawberry shampoo near the door, though, and his steps stutter a bit when he hears her laugh.

“I think I’m pregnant,” she blurts. Her voice isn’t loud, but Kiara swears her words stick to the air itself.
The silence after is thick, hanging between them as JJ lifts his head. Now, there’s no avoidance, no eyes on the ground, no pretending she’s anyone but her. Instead, his blue eyes – wide in a way that makes him look younger – dart from her face to the arms wrapped around her stomach and back again. In his hand, the cigarette burns lower and lower as the silence lingers between them.
He opens his mouth. Closes it. Blinks. And, where earlier she’d wished for him to look her in the eye, now she just wishes he would look away.
JJ takes one shaky step toward her – still favoring his left side – and then jerks his hand with a sharp, “Fuck!”
He fumbles, tugging at his shirt with one hand and swiping at it with the other. The remnants of the cigarette hit the sand, smoldering out between them as he croaks out, “Like… with a baby?”
“No, with a fuckin’ puppy,” she bites out before she can stop herself. His brows twist down, forehead creasing in – confusion? hurt? annoyance? – and she hisses, “Yes, dumbass, a baby.”

He’s just finished the second braid when there’s a squeak from down the hall like rubber on linoleum. His head shoots up, followed quickly by Kiara’s and Cleo’s. Pope is last, his dark eyes blinking rapidly as he follows everyone’s gaze to where John B is skidding – and slipping – to a stop in front of them.
His hair stands up at every angle, the curls wild and messy the way they are after a full night of partying at The Boneyard, but his smile – though sleepy – is the brightest thing JJ has ever seen in his entire life. Teary-eyed, with a wrinkled shirt, mussed hair, and eyelids that look ready to close – John B has never looked happier.
Looking between his friends slowly, John B’s eyes eventually settle on JJ. They stare at each other – something passing between them, something JJ can feel right in the center of his chest – and then John opens his mouth and practically sobs the words, “We have a daughter.”
