Summary
Eddie knew. It wasn’t too hard to realize it. He doesn’t really know how the rest of the 118 hadn’t seen it, and they had known Buck for a year. They considered him family. And yet, they hadn’t figured it out. Maybe it took one to know one? But Eddie was sure: Evan “Buck” Buckley is 100% ex-military.
Or: Buck’s journey in the 118 throughout the years after he served in the Navy and hid it from his coworkers.

Summary
Helena is already grabbing Christopher’s coat. “Come on, sweetheart. You’re coming home with us for a little while.”
Christopher frowns, blinking blearily up at her. “Nana? Wha-” He sits up taller, eyes darting between each of the adults in the room. “I’m not leaving my dad.”
“He’ll be okay, you’ll see him once he’s better.” Helena reassures, reaching down to squeeze his shoulder.
“Oh yes, I’m sure he’ll be fine waking up to find that you’ve taken his son to another state after almost dying. How could you both be so selfish?”
Chris is starting to look upset now, his lower lip trembling as he looks down at his father. “I don’t want to go to Texas.” he whispers, his hand resting on Eddie’s leg. Bobby’s heart pangs, and he’s about to finally speak up when another voice cuts into the tension of the room-
“You’re not going anywhere, Chris.”

Eddie's heart drops almost immediately and he rushes to Chim, almost ripping the envelope from his hand.
"Woah there, this better not be some weird fetish thing."
"Shut up Chim!" He snaps back.

Summary
“Buck,” his voice comes out even softer now, a desperation in it that he’s not entirely used to. “Please, you have to say something. What do you need?”
Buck just sits there, tears gathering at the rims of his eyes, his bottom lip beginning to tremble. Eddie turns it over in his mind, trying to find where the night went sideways. One minute they'd been talking about Chris' newest science project; the next they were sealed off inside their own heads, something heavy and unspoken growing between them. What was Buck thinking about? Why couldn't he say it? Shutting down, closing off, swallowing everything as deep down as it could possibly go, that was Eddie's thing. Not his.
OR
After his kidnapping leaves Buck broken and completely silent, Eddie brings him home and pieces him back together the only way he knows how: carefully, quietly, and closer than a best friend probably should.

Summary
“Hang on, let me–” Eddie says, stopping Buck before he can get back in the car. When Christopher was younger and sick, Eddie would check for a fever by kissing him on the forehead, a quick press of his lips that served dual purposes of temperature gauging and providing comfort. He hadn’t been able to get away with that open affection for a couple years now, not since Chris became too cool for it, and he’s never done it with anyone else, but he has the urge to do that to Buck right now, to gently pull at his collar and lean up and place his lips right on his forehead. He wonders if he could sell it as practical, even in his own head. Eddie uses his hand instead.
“Alright,” Buck says impatiently, “I’m fine.”
“Maybe this is for me, not you,” Eddie says with a touch of too much honesty. He doesn’t back up, not yet, just trails his fingers down, brushing over his stubbled jaw and the thin skin covering his pulse point. Buck’s breath catches a little bit when he presses two fingers there, and Eddie focuses on the thumpthumpthump before pulling away.

Post 911's 9.13's "Mother's Boy."
"Another nurse, a man with muscles bulging through his scrubs, hovers near the door, trying not to look like he’d been called in for security purposes. There are soft restraints in his hand.
Eddie shoots him a withering glare. “Get out,” he grizzles. He doesn’t bother hiding the edge of combat-borne lethality this whole ordeal has resurrected.
The man slinks out of the door."

Summary
As the weeks have gone by, almost everyone has relaxed around him. They’ve started to trust his assurances that he’s okay, and in turn he’s starting to believe it himself. Really, the only person who doesn’t see his progress is Eddie.
Eddie, who was there.
Eddie, who drove 10 hours straight despite his own injuries and who didn’t say anything when Buck had a 15 minute panic attack during a thunderstorm on their way back.
Eddie, who held Buck's hand in the ambulance when he was delirious with pain and relief. Buck hadn’t been entirely convinced Eddie was real, he thought maybe Eddie was a death bed hallucination — one last comfort before Buck died alone in a shed. At the time, Buck didn’t really care if Eddie was real or not, he was just grateful Eddie’s face would be the last thing he saw.
Buck is struggling after New Mexico. Both his mind and his body are fighting against his efforts to move past his kidnapping, continuously dragging him back to a house he never wants to think about again. All he wants is to move on, and he finds it so much easier to ignore the past when pills are involved.

Summary
Chimney isn't quite sure when it started.
Well. He knows it was after Buck and Eddie got back from Nashville, but that's a given.
It's been two weeks since they returned—give or take a day—and because of their injuries, they've both been benched with light duty. Eddie had grumbled and rolled his eyes at the decision, and while those reactions were usually annoying, Chimney had actually found his relieving. Especially when his counter part had nodded quietly and accepted his fate without complaint.
Hence now, why Chimney is watching his brother-in-law like a hawk from the loft, counting the seconds he's been stalled.

Summary
Rocking back on his heels, Buck pushes himself up. He stretches his arms behind him as he climbs to his feet, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
Then it hits.
Pain flickers through his left ankle, sparking beneath his skin and dancing across the bone.
Buck stumbles, almost falling into the refurbished flowerbed before he manages to catch himself. He winces and shifts all of his weight onto his right leg. The pain retreats to the same dull ache he had ignored a few minutes before, the sensation settling into the bone. It prickles beneath his skin like pins and needles, a slight numbness settling into his ankle. He reaches down and presses his gloved fingers to the bone, trying to feel for an injury he might have missed.

Summary
"Don't try to get up," Colt says. His voice is very even. "Stay right there, Ry. Just stay."
The man between them looks almost bored, which is somehow the worst thing about him. He checks his watch. He looks at the door.
Come on, Colt thinks. At no one. At the door. At the empty idea of rescue. Come on. Come on.
He doesn't let himself think the name.
He thinks it anyway.

Summary
“Look, it’s not that I’m not … grateful to see you again, Mads,” Buck said hesitantly, after his sister was dressed and they were sitting down on the sofa together, “but, uh, what exactly brought you here? Not LA, um, I mean why did you come to me specifically?”
“Do I need an excuse to see my baby brother now?” She asked a little defensively.
“Considering we haven’t seen each other in person in seven years, or talked on the phone in at least three, you need something better than you don’t care where your shitty husband is.” Buck stated.
“If it’s that big of a deal, I’ll go.” Maddie huffed.
OR
When Maddie arrives in LA, into Buck's apartment, they have a very different conversation about divorce, protective orders, and new relationships.
