Summary
In exchange of lands the zoras have long coveted, queen Zelda only demands one thing: that prince Sidon marry the hero of Hyrule who, five years ago, saved the world from disaster.
For the good of his people, Sidon resigns himself to the company of a man surrounded by dark rumours and mysteries, a man who saw his sister die and did not save her.
But there is more to that cold hero than meet the eye, as Sidon soon realises, and perhaps they can make the best of a union neither of them wanted.Bookmarked by Spectral_Aspen

---
Sidon wondered if he was supposed to be impressed by that, because he was.
---
By all rights Kass should have been the rito delegate, but rito valued martial power over diplomacy and for that reason Teba was the one to represent their Elder. Sidon wished they didn’t, because the very last thing he needed at the moment was to deal with another grumpy warrior who had decided to hate him for no reason. -

Summary
‘If I promise to stop getting stuff in my hair, will you braid it again?’ Link asked ‘like, more often?’ hopefulness was laced in his eyes.
Revali slowly turned to stare hard at Link, dots slowly connecting in his mind. “If you’ve been purposefully dirtying yourself because of that, I’m going to throw you out a window”.
Link’s guilty chuckle was not a good answer.
And that’s why Revali was trying to throw Link out the window when Teba arrived to ask where the basin was. No Teba, Revali hasn’t snapped and proclaimed war on the hylians, just the one. No Teba, Revali’s not going to kill him as soon as you turn your head. Yes Teba, the hylian was asking for it.
In which Link is not a knight, and the things it changes.

His curiosity came back full force, he wanted to watch Link fight a frost talus- properly this time.
‘Sure’ Link signed. Revali almost felt satisfied that his interest hadn’t turned out to be some weird reclusive hobgoblin after all.
At least, until Link asked him if Flurry or Snowblast was a better name for a frost talus, then he decided Link was an idiot no matter how well he swung a weapon.
---
God knows how many times Saki had dragged Teba into something because he could sing low notes, the damn rito being too jealous to refuse because he knew she’d just go to Kass.
---
Somewhere in the back of his mind, he’d unintentionally assumed the Hylian ate in proportion to his height- which was to say, like a mouse. The few times he’d seen Link eat he was too busy either talking or eating his own food to realize that this small twig of a person had a true inner power.
As Link sat down by the fire with his own food, Revali almost did a double take. There was an entire gourmet roast in his hands, and three more piled on the plate next to him. Before Link could even take a bite, Revali was already poking fun. “There’s no way you can eat all that,” he chided “You’d pop”.
Revali had a vague idea of how fast Link ate, but he had no idea that until this point, Link was eating slow just to be respectful.
Instead, Link just quirked an eyebrow, seeming to take it as a challenge. He grinned a wide grin that was usually associated with trouble, before wolfing the entire thing down in 5, terrifying, singular, bites.
It was too fast to even see, Revali blinked and missed it all. One second, the meat was all there, the next it was nothing but a bone.
...
“Alright, I have to know- where does it all go?” Revali finally demanded the day after witnessing the horrifying incident. Link gave him a questioning glance up from where he was mixing something together, possibly another meal he was planning on devouring in one bite. Maybe he would just unhinge his jaw and consume the bowl this time, revealing himself as a dragon in human form. It would explain his hoarding of shiny and valuable objects.
...
He went to the rack, eyebrows quirked. Revali recognized this one, but he couldn’t quite remember what it was. It was curved inwards, with a small gold cork. “Link, where did you get this bottle?” he asked the hylian watching the cake bake behind him.
Link turned his head, signing ‘from a merchant named kilton’.
Well, that didn’t help in the slightest. “Yes, but what is it?” Revali asked again
‘Monster extract’.
That sounded… extremely familiar. After a minute racking his brain, Revali realized why. Monster extract, Monster essence. He was taught this as a hatchling, and presented a sample to see as example.
“Link this is poison-!” Revali turned just in time to see Link, with the freshly baked cake shoved halfway into his mouth.
---
He opened one eye, sure enough, he was pretty much draped in Revali’s lap, feathers tickling his nose. “Finally” the rito huffed.
Link craned his head up to look at Revali dead in the eyes, before settling back down to sleep. “HAVE YOU NO SHAME” the rito squawked, “Get OFF!” Revali finally shoved him off his lap and onto the floor.
-----
Vah Medoh was finally up and running.
...
They didn’t speak exactly, but they kind of fed ideas into his brain. Which could be annoying at times. Sometimes he couldn’t tell who was thinking what. He was just flying around, minding his own business when suddenly out of nowhere, he’d think to himself ‘the fourth furnace is leaking fuel’.
He knew Medoh was trying to be helpful, but that mental record scratch had almost made him crash into a tree.
---
Link was ready to absolutely leap for those flowers, even if it wasn’t really a big deal. What his brain decided was and wasn’t important was a coin toss. His priorities honestly changed with the flip of a coin.
Getting to the shrine at the top of the gerudo highlands? That can wait.
Seeing if it was possible to kill a Lynel with nothing but sticks? Absolutely a must.
---
“That crown” Revali struggled to keep himself from screaming “Is made from the purest of gold… the rarest of diamonds… handcrafted years ago purely for hylian royalty… worth more than your entire collection together…” He couldn’t help it anymore, his voice raised to a shriek. “AND YOU GAVE IT TO CHARLINE?!”
Revali couldn’t BELIEVE what he was looking at. Charline was buried in the ground, hiding and waiting for an unsuspecting Revali to get too close as usual. But her ore deposit- which could be seen poking out, now held a bright speck of gold. The crown had been carefully put on top of the tip of the ore deposit, Revali could even see where the dang thing was beginning to fuse with her at the edges! -

“Stupid,” she murmurs. She kneels and takes Link’s face in her hands, wiping dirt and grass from his sweaty forehead. “Link? Hey. Are you alright?”
“Ow,” he says, not opening his eyes.
She exhales loudly and pats his cheek. “You’re okay.”
He opens his eyes and reiterates, “Ow,” with some offense.
...
“Thanks,” he says, first to her, then to Draga who’s looking at the two of them like he’s just realizes they’re insane. Link clears his throat. “She’s right. It’s not that bad.”
“Your entire arm could have rotted to the marrow and fallen off,” Draga says tonelessly.
Link nervously flexes his hand. “But it didn’t.”
---
And then fishmonger says, “Oi, you’re that fuckin’ guy,” and the spice trader literally starts appealing to the gods.
It takes Link a second to realize he’s being spoken to. He frowns, in the middle of counting out payment, and doesn’t answer.
“Link right?”
Link ignores him.
“Yeah, thought so. Jessie, you shouldn’t sell to ‘im.” The fishmonger hiccups, cheerful in his bearing of bad news. “He’s a demon, ya know. Traded his fuckin’ soul to the Mountain Lord for power.” Another hiccup. “People saw ‘im. Riding the beast of Satori Peak across Hyrule Field. No lie.”
Zelda and Draga exchange a look. It’s not… a surprised look.
...
You rode a god?” Draga demands when they’re alone.
Link looks abashed and goes back to eating his fruit, discretely kicking Epona into a trot.
“You’re joking. Tell me you’re joking.”
Draga follows him, sounding a little desperate.
“Link, are you joking?”
Link rides away faster.
“Link!”
---
When she comes back, Link and Draga are seated cross-legged facing one another in the grass.
Link is signing, ‘I love pie.’
Which seems odd until Draga awkwardly mirrors Link’s hand-motions and says, “That seems lengthy for a hello.”
Link maintains his cool. “No. It means ‘hello’.”
Draga signs, ‘I love pie.’
Link smiles.
“Like that?” Draga says, suspicious.
“Yes.”
---
When asked what Draga is doing, Link’s not sure because 90% of what Draga does looks like “scribbling in the dirt” and “squinting really hard at nothing then cursing”. He says Draga is doing ‘spellwork’ to trace the source of the curse.
He kind of fumbles over a slang sign for ‘spellwork’ that’s dangerously close to ‘magical bullshit’.
...
Link signs. ‘Don’t worry so much. Draga will get it.’
Zelda sighs. “I didn’t even notice it could be a curse.”
‘Were you ever trained for that? Detecting curses? Who curses people? That sounds fake.’
“You literally fought an incarnation of ancient evil and fight magically tainted monsters all the time. You have several semi-cursed objects in your travel pack that are so magically afflicted that Draga hit you in the face once because he thought one of your masks was taking root in your skull.”
“Psh,” he says in that tone that is largely responsible for 90% of Draga’s anxiety.
---
Turns out Link isn’t a talkative drunk.
After quite a few long draughts from the flask, however, Link does discard all sense of personal space. So he’s presently trying to climb on Draga’s back and Zelda – eating a small bag of candied fruit – makes absolutely no move to help. Link keeps saying something about ‘higher ground’ as he clambers their giant friend the way he might climb a rock face. Draga doesn’t seem amused. He pries at the smaller man with little success, Link clinging, tenacious as a limpet. He gives it up until Link is literally sitting on his left shoulder, squinting across the plains with the attitude of a mountaineer surveying the country.
Draga sighs and loops a hand over Link’s knee to keep him from tipping. He eyes the impetuous Hero of Hyrule with a long, calculated stare that is surely counting down to the moment he flings Link into the dirt. But he makes no move to do so. His hand on Link’s thigh is so large that his fingers very nearly encircle his leg just above his knee.
“I could throw you like a shotput,” Draga reminds him.
Link says, loudly, “Don’t be a drag, Draga.”
The Gerudo gives him this look like Link’s immediate future as a human bolo is forthcoming.
---
Link huffs. “You two collect a lot of shit.”
Draga unlocks the front door with a look. “This from the man who catalogued no less than three hundred species of insect for the sake of literally nothing but your own compulsion.”
“Hey, I didn’t put three-hundred framed bugs on the walls.”
This gets an eyeroll. “We can’t all have magical bags to hide the evidence of our hording-based crimes.” -

Summary
Neuvillette winced at the sound of Wriothesley and Sedene’s fierce arguing in the hallway. He loathed the distance he had put between himself and the Duke, but knew it was necessary. His strict instructions to keep Wriothesley out of his office were for the warden’s own good, no matter how much it hurt the Chief Justice to stay away.
“Fine! But I expect an explanation. If I don’t get one, then I’ll just keep coming back!” The Duke’s parting shot seemed to strike the Iudex’s heart.
“Please don’t,” he whispered once the doors of the Palais Mermonia slammed shut.
Please do, his traitorous heart echoed.
Or, Neuvillette saves Wriothesley from the brink of death by claiming him as his mate. Certain that Wriothesley will hate him for it, he seals himself away in the Palais Mermonia and promises to let the Duke live as normal a life as possible without getting in the way of his happiness.
