Xie Lian startles at the voice so hard that his bag of scraps promptly falls out of his grasp, scattering rubbish across the ground. Usually, Xie Lian is far more adept at repressing such severe reactions, but he whips his head around as if he could find who had spoken despite the fact he knows it had been only for his ears to hear.
