Summary
The saint of soldiers is more legend than anything else. It’s a cobbled-together tale of a boy with a rifle and a wolf-dog, who walks on ice better than dry ground. It’s a snow-blown story about a boy who meets a soldier’s fate: bullets and brimstone and blood and betrayal.
The traitor-saint stole from his country two things: a boy who knew far too much, and their pride. The boy, maybe, could have been forgiven. But the betrayal could never be. So the tale goes: the boy betrayed his country, and the boy is forever known as the traitor-saint.
