Summary
Slowly, he looked down. Arthur followed his gaze and inhaled sharply. Deep red spread out across Merlin’s blue tunic under one of his hands, wet and seeping onto his fingers. Blood. Arthur’s heart faltered as panic surged through him.
“You’re bleeding,” he breathed.
“I…suppose I am,” Merlin muttered in reply, his voice eerily calm. “Huh. My stitches tore.”

Summary
Soft, sock-covered, footprints echoed through the quiet cabin and Merlin tensed. His hands tightened around the cup in his grip.
Then, strong arms around around his neck from the back, hands resting against his chest as a face buried itself in his hair. Merlin relaxed.
He let out a sigh of relief, slumping down slightly. “Arthur…” he murmured, “you startled me.”

Summary
Merlin dabbed the wet cloth over his cut slowly and all too gently. It was too tender—too…intimate. Arthur let out a loud sigh and, on a particularly stupid impulse, pushed Merlin’s hand away.
“Why don’t you just—you know.” He wiggled his fingers in that special way he knew meant magic and Merlin stiffened in front of him. The atmosphere shifted too fast for Arthur’s comfort, and Merlin took a step away from the bed, hands hanging limply at his sides.
“I’m not sure I understand,” he lied.

When he pulled back, Merlin’s lips were stretched into the dopiest smile. His eyes glittering a mix of blue and gold as flowers bloomed slowly around them. Arthur felt the heat rise to his face. He wasn’t sure he would ever get used to the magical outbursts.
“You did it again,” he said, voice just above a whisper, as he looked around them.
Merlin’s eyes faded to pure blue and widened, face painted a red close to Arthur’s own family colour, as he looked around them.
“I’ve got to learn how to stop doing that”

“Oh, look at you.” It took great strength not to smile at the sound of his lover’s voice. “They should have called you, King Arthur Pendragon, the Pouting Prince of all the Lands.”
“Shut up, Merlin,” Arthur huffed, rolling his eyes. More out of fondness than irritation, unlike their early years. “Let’s just get this over with.”

Summary
After revealing his magic, Merlin promised his king that he would tell him if he was hurt or needed help. The aftermath of an assassination attempt sent him, injured, stumbling into Arthur's chambers to fulfill his promise. Once he did that, he figured he could finish getting ready for the visiting delegation and wrap up his chores. He wasn't sure why Arthur was being so weird about it. He was only lightly shot.
