Summary
When Merlin's magic is exposed shortly before season 2 starts, the path of destiny starts changing forever. Now on the run with Arthur, Morgana, and Gwen. Merlin hopes to convince Arthur that magic is totally good instead of him and Morgana just being an exception. Morgana, meanwhile, hopes to convince him to usurp his father. As allies are gathered and Arthur realizes the injustice in his kingdom, it looks more and more like he will have to act in a drastic way. A way he dreads.
Meanwhile, Arthur and Merlin are growing closer and closer and might just have feelings for each other. Something they probably should be better about realizing, considering the example of Gwen and Morgana right next to them.

And poking at Superhero legality leads straight to the dirty laundry of world governments across the world. Its a bad day to be anyone in any position of power. Through all the chaos lines are being drawn and long needed arguments had. It would be helpful if Lena wasn't dealing with a slight identity crisis now that she has her memories from a different life in her head. Also Gwen would like everyone to know she is a workers rights lawyer not whatever it is they think her law degree is. Arthur, Merlin, Alex and the rest of the DEO no longer remember what sleep feels like. Someone has finally forced Kara to see a therapist though, so there may be hope.

Instead, Arthur is stuck waiting in the middle of nowhere while Balinor calls the dragon. To make matters worse, Arthur’s idiot manservant clearly has a massive crush on the guy: despite him being a grumpy, straggly, cave-dwelling sorcerer, who makes terrible cabbage pottage, Merlin hasn’t taken his eyes off him! "I don't think you understand," Merlin said as he started walking backwards, brows wrinkled in confusion. "I can rip your throat out with my teeth and drink your blood. Does that not bother you?" He asked. Arthur finally glanced up from the papers in his hand to look at him, pausing his steps altogether. Merlin waited.
"...Merlin, you fell over trying to put boots on." He said. Merlin grimaced, looking down at his feet.
"I hadn't realized you were supposed to wear them all the time." He muttered, uncertain what this had to do with the fact he could murder everyone within a ten mile radius. Arthur sighed. "And those are bold words from someone who can't dress himself!" He added indignantly. Another sigh. Humans did that a lot as it turned out.
"Merlin, that's your job."
"And I've taught you several times. It isn't that hard."
"No, I - " Arthur started and closed his eyes. "I don't have time for this."

Arthur closed his eyes, expression riddled with irritation before turning to look at Merlin expectantly.
"Know what?"
“The mare I use. You know I call her Daisy? I never told you that." Merlin explained. Arthur stared for a few moments. He could see the flicker of emotions pass easily over him. Anger, annoyance, exasperation, indignance, and finally acceptance...AKA the Five Stages of Grief (Pendragon Edition).
"You talk to the horse.” He pointed out. Merlin narrowed his eyes.
“I whisper to the horse."
"...am I supposed to not hear it?” Arthur asked. Merlin wondered how likely it would be that he also heard him whispering magical spells if he heard him murmuring to the bloody horse. “Also, only you would choose such a ridiculous name.” He muttered. Merlin swallowed. This wasn't a problem at all, right? Right.

Merlin knows Arthur well. Better than he knew himself apparently. What he hadn't expected was for Arthur to know his servant just as well... This causes problems. (also known as "The Time Merlin Had a Mental Breakdown Over Arthur Being a Normal Human")
