Something bubbled up inside of Zanka, a twisted feeling that made him want more, more of Enjin’s marks, bruises and whatever else he could get. He would be ready to take it, just like those offhand compliments strewn his way like small breadcrumbs keeping a bird interested.
He leaned down, briefly forgetting the whole reason he was even straddling Enjin’s hips, and he whispered in Enjin’s ear:

Enjin sighs. “Sorry. Force of habit.”
More ash falls into his lap.
“‘S fine,” Zanka replies. “Unless…I mean, you don’t still see me as a kid, do you?”
“No,” Enjin says. Too fast.
Smoke wavers and he pulls his cigarette away to tap it.
Zanka’s eyes stay. “I’ve been wondering if those taste good.”
“Doesn’t matter. You don’t want it.”
It’s a lie for both of them, and it fools neither.

Zanka doesn't answer. He turns his face to meet Enjin's, yanks him in by his jacket, and kisses him.
It's good, so much better than any of Zanka's daydreams or late night masturbation fantasies. Enjin's mouth is soft and hot against his own, his hands coming up to cradle Zanka's face, twist into his hair. He can feel everything, every nerve ending on fire, and he's going to have to thank Riyo for this somehow when he's sober.

"Hey, Zanzan," the moment Enjin used the nickname, that's when Zanka knows his husband is up to crazy idea. "What if I just let my stubble grow?"
The question is so out of the world that it prompts Zanka to turn in his chair. "What do you mean?"
"Kids these days don't respect the elders anymore," Enjin drags his hands over his face, his voice comes out slightly muffled. "Maybe the beard will make me look scarier and they will start respecting me more."
Zanka should have known better.
Years and decades, he should have learned his lesson.
But this is Enjin, THE Enjin.
And Zanka, unfortunately will always have his own perception of him a bit skewed, slightly disturbed by the bias.

Enjin takes a drag. After earlier, he needs it. “How old are you? Eighteen?”
Zanka stands up straighter and puffs his chest out, wrongly proud to be older than Enjin’s guess. “Nineteen.”
God, he’s still a fucking teenager.
“This isn’t what you think it is. That back there? It’s part of my job. You know, acting. It’s how I get tips.”
“But I don’t have a lot of money.”
Enjin knows this, and still, he egged Zanka on. Almost like he enjoyed it. That, he’ll keep to himself. He doesn’t want to give Zanka any more ideas than he already has.
“Right. So, go back inside. Find someone a little more appropriate for your attention. I can promise you, Zanka, it’s not me.” The boy looks like he might cry. “Hey, hey. Don’t do that. It isn’t you. You’re nice. Cute. A real catch, I’m sure. I’m just too old for this to be anything seri—“
A hand knots in the collar of his shirt, and suddenly, Enjin is jerked down. Of all the things he expected to happen here, Zanka having the balls to try and kiss him was last on the list.

Hearing Zanka liked men was about as surprising as finding trash in No Man’s Land. The second part however, Enjin didn’t see coming. Temperament aside, he couldn’t imagine Zanka having trouble finding guys his age if he felt like it.
The first thing Enjin thought to ask was, “How old we talkin’? Like, ninety?”

“Hm? Ohoh, right you have that rule, my bad my bad.” He started to move the cup away from Zanka, and Zanka watched it with sinking disappointment.
That had been the Hellguard’s rule. No alcohol before 19. It’s not like anyone else on the Ground followed that. He’d even seen Riyo drinking before, though Enjin had tried to stop it.
Zanka grabbed the cup from the base, avoiding Enjin’s hand still on the top of it. “It’s fine. It’s not like I’m with them anymore, it’s been years.”
