"Oh. I woke you." Hinata said. Nagito picked up the pillow and clutched it to his chest.
"Oh, don't worry about me, Hinata-kun!"
"But you were sleeping."
"You could wake me any time you want, for any reason." Nagito promised as he put down the pillow. Now it was too late to tidy up, evidently. Hinata looked down at the floor for a moment and then dumped the things he was holding on the bedside table.

Though his vision is still a bit hazy, he manages to make out the caller, at which point he answers the call and tucks his phone under his ear. If it were almost anyone else, Rantaro would probably say there’s nothing that can possibly be important enough to warrant a call so late at night, but Kaede is… different. Kaede wouldn’t call him unless she really needed something; she has a hard enough time reaching out to him when she needs it as is. As such, before Kaede has even spoken, Rantaro’s sat up and swung his legs over the edge.
A sniffle on the other end of the line is Kaede’s greeting.
“Hey,” Rantaro mumbles. His voice comes out rough and quiet, so he clears his throat. “Everything okay?”
“I-I—” Kaede cuts off with a sharp inhalation and a whimper. “Sorry, you can—haha, you can hang up, I just wanted to—make sure you’re alive.”
“Well, I’m alive,” Rantaro says. He makes sure to keep his frown out of his voice, fishing a shirt off the desk chair by his bed and pulling it on. “I’m coming over, okay? I’ll be there in a few.”

Why, Kaede can’t really say; he has plenty to worry about, being the eldest of thirteen and the heir to a massive, multi-billion dollar corporation, but… he never tells her about any of that. He rarely tells her about anything that upsets him, come to think of it.
Like this, though, Rantaro actually looks like he feels safe. All the wrinkles in his face smoothen out and his forehead un-creases, leaving behind unblemished freckled skin and gently fluttering lashes. He looks strangely vulnerable, actually, which is weird to see from someone like Rantaro, who has never spent more than a single waking moment with his guard down. It’s almost a little bit upsetting, that Rantaro never shows her this side of himself when he’s awake, but at the same time… Kaede is glad that he trusts her with this, if nothing else.

Rantaro falls asleep* on Kaede's shoulder on the bus. It brings up a couple feelings.

“Even if it was, I’d keep you warm!” Kaito puffs out. Maki raises an eyebrow at him, but Kaito doesn’t seem to realise how embarrassing that is to say. The fact that Kaito is too oblivious to mean most of his humiliating statements as flirts actually makes it easier to keep her cool, though not by much; Maki’s ears still pink.
“Would you carry me too?” She points a thumb back towards Rantaro. “Like that?”
Kaito rubs his chin and glances over his shoulder, another smile springing onto his face when he sees Rantaro and Kaede, like just the sight of them made his night. Dork. “Hm… nah! I’d probably carry you in front of me, against my chest. It’d be warmer that way!”
Never mind. Even Kaito’s obliviousness isn’t enough to save her from this. Maki reaches out and grabs Kaito’s ear, twigging it.

“Mm, one of those nights.” Rantaro’s hand presses against Maki’s lower back. “You should be more worried about Kaede, seems like today’s going to be a slow one for her.”
Maki rolls her eyes. “Somehow, I’m sure she’ll—hey!”
‘Hey’, because Rantaro (the bastard) takes advantage of their position to scoop Maki off the ground, a bracing arm around her back and the other sneaking around her legs. Maki yelps and clings to him—it’s easier with her arms already on his shoulders—and uses her position to take the scruff of his neck and shake him a little too. Rantaro just laughs, tossing his head back to rebalance, adjusting Maki so she’ll rest comfortably against his chest.
“You are such an asshole,” Maki complains, but she’s laughing too hard to sound genuine about it.
