During a conversation with Vickie, Robin decides to start using Steve as her beard and sure, lying to her parents is great, and she doesn't mind Hawkins thinking she's getting it on with Steve Harrington, but then lovable, idiotic Steve decides it's a great idea to carry on the lie to Eddie to make him jealous. Robin has had enough of her platonic soulmate being this fucking stupid, but sure, whatever, it'll work out in the end, it always does with Steve.
“Should I — like, go?” Eddie stares at them, still lifting up the duvet so cold air is getting on Robin’s thighs, she curls her toes under the shins of the massive fucking idiot next to her. “If you guys wanna —?”
Eddie, Robin thinks, is probably the only person they should tell about the whole fake part of their relationship. Eddie, Robin thinks, is probably the only other person in the world who would’ve even volunteered to be her beard. Eddie, who they share a bed with when they’re drunk like this, is the last person they need to start lying to but for some reason Steve has decided they need to defend themselves against Eddie and Robin can only stare at Steve and think "why him, why is he your soulmate?"

Everyone's moved away from Hawkins, it's just Eddie and Steve and Keith (of all people). The kids don't have time to be calling their old babysitters while they're off living their lives, and Robin keeps calling and urging them to move, to come and see her and get the fuck out of Hawkins. It takes Keith running to Oklahoma and a Blondie song to get Steve on the move.
“Keith is leaving. He’s going to fucking Oklahoma for a managerial position at fucking Family Video. That is an objectively shit life, serving the gods of Family Video, right? But if I stay here in fucking Hawkins Family Video, I’m doing worse than Keith!” He runs a hand through his hair. Eddie’s face is bewildered and oil spattered. “Keith is getting out. I’ll be fucking dead before Keith leaves me to rot here like everyone else. We are going on the road, Eddie.”
“The road?” Steve thinks his tone is sounding more awed than confused now, like Steve is some fascinating species from D&D he absolutely needs to know everything about, right now. It’s been a long time since Eddie’s looked like that.
“Your band. We’ll kidnap Gareth, community college makes him depressed he’ll get over it.” He waves a hand.

He's invited wedding for a reunion, he finally sees faces he's fallen out of touch with.
Rock and roll, new wave, alternative rock shit, whatever glam metal is. Guys with big painted eyes and fluffy hair and sexual proclivities that are going to make his dad call him up and ask if it’s really a good direction for the label. Fuck the old guys, let’s rock out whatever the fuck, it’s just a good marketing line. More youth, like no one above forty, thanks, no country “I hate my wife and I hate gun laws, yahoo freedom shit”, it’s old, it’s done.
“I want something fun,” he tells Lisa. “Something young and… cool. You’re younger than me, who’s cool but underground enough that they won’t already have a label.”
“I like the Pop Top 40 same as you,” she says, pursing her lips at him. “Why don’t you just send some minions out to a student bar and grab the first man wearing glitter?”
